Run and start capacitors

Find the capacitor that fits your unit. Match the numbers printed on your old one. Brand does not matter. The numbers do.

  1. 1µF (MFD): must be the same, like 45/5
  2. 2Volts: same or higher (440 can replace 370)
  3. 3Shape: round or oval, to fit the bracket

What a capacitor does

It gives the motors in your AC a push to start and keeps them running smooth. When it fails, the fan may hum or not spin at all.

Dual vs single

A dual run capacitor powers two motors from one can. It has three terminals: HERM, FAN and C. A single run has two.

Safety first

Turn off power at the breaker and the outdoor disconnect. A capacitor can hold a charge after power is off. Read the guide.
